Nouvelle robe!

Hair cut

This is Amelie again...

Ok, my hair was not looking the greatest, even I can see this, but look at what my dad did. These bangs are something else! I just hope that he's better at his day job than this, oh my...

This is my hair before: I sure needed a hair cut!

This is my hair now: I chose a picture that looks a little better :-)

The best time of the day

At three weeks, Amélie switched from sponge baths to baths in the infant tub. Dad gave her her first bath, and has continued doing so ever since...

Here is their first bath time:

At first, bath time was quite minimal in terms of interaction, and to be honest, a little traumatic... Amélie would start screaming as soon as we would transfer her from the tub to the towel... Within a few days though, she started enjoying more of her daily bath with dad. She also was quite cooperative in terms of taking baths in multiple hotel room sinks (like here in Rome at 16 weeks):

Now a year later, Amélie and her dad just have a blast at bath time. This has become not only their very special time together, but for me (the proud mom and wife) it is a joy to listen to their chat from afar... Tonight I sneaked in to catch her in her favorite time of the day... A picture is worth a thousand words:

I wouldn't be surprised if Amélie loves Spa Days later on...

Tongue twister...

Her favorite trick lately:

More discoveries

Amélie has been busy these days... We can still catch her on camera, but that might not remain for long, she starts being pretty fast, too fast for the camera to focus...

Here she is with Capu (Capuccino monkey is a bit of stretch for her to say), her current favorite toy:

Amélie au soleil

Le weekend dernier a été ensoleillé et ça nous a permis d'être dehors, on s'est baladé et on a exploré notre village...

Aussi Amélie est de plus en plus aventureuse:

At the playground!

It's me again everybody...
Last weekend the weather was finally a little warmer and we went for a long walk. Well, I didn't walk much, rode all the while on my dad's back, pretty sweet. But the coolest part was really this new thing, I think they call it a slide. Girl, that was fun! I couldn't get enough of it! And I can't wait till going again!!

Trilingualism angst!

From time to time, I go overboard thinking how mean we are with Amélie, trying to get her to figure out three languages at once... She is pointing at a lot of things lately, with notable "aaaahhh"s, clearly showing that she would like to express something close to "gimme that thingie there"...

A few things she seems to have gotten down so far:
uhoh - that thing people say around here after doing something wrong...
doudou - the little puppet given by tata Aïcha
ahoooo and miaou - from her favorite book, the Doggies

Not very elaborate, but a start... I also find solace in the multilingual families board, and in the association of multilingual children...

From these sites, it seems that she might not be talking till she is 21/2 years old... i.e. a whole lot more "aaaahhh"s to come... keep swimming!

Investments 101

Amélie has participated in 2 psych experiments this week, generating $10!

As scientists, we decided to investigate how much that would be when she will enroll in college... Through the magic of compound interest, we found out that, after 18 years at a rate of 6%/year, this modest income would lead to the considerable amount of... $28.54... Amazing!

After recovering from laughter, we went back to work, yeah someone has to build that college fund...

In a case of emergency, we can change strategy, move to LA and have her start a career as a model (little miss sunshine style...) Everyone gave her lots of compliments yesterday when she was wearing her new Hello Kitty shirt (mille mercis Tata Susu):

How difficult could it be?

Hi everybody, this is Amelie again...

The other day I heard my dad telling my mom how hard it is to have kids (I guess he called me a baby). My mom seemed to agree...

Well, I have a few things to say about this. But let me anticipate the main point: I think they are blowing this completely out of proportion!

So I don't really like to be strapped in when they take me for a ride in their car. I often shout, cry, or yell. But so??? If I dragged them around like that, they would raise hell, I can assure you.

I often spit the stuff that they give me during what they call "meal time". And here I ask: have you ever eaten some of that horrible baby food? No? I could have guessed that...

At night time they expect me to just go to sleep and let go of all the fun that I am having. Well, you get the point, no need to continue here...

So, let me say this again, especially for those of you planning on having your first kid, or thinking of having a wonderful little addition to the family. How hard can it be? Just look at me below and answer it please...

Petite nana!

Also, today was Amélie's first time as a psych research participant!! She didn't get the point, but she was definitely into the reward: she thoroughly enjoyed chewing on her TARGET gift certificate:

More discoveries...

This weekend,we went to the Wonderlab, i.e. the Bloomington museum of science. They have a big inner discovery garden, and Amélie loved discovering its games, but most of all, she loved putting all she could in her mouth... Hopefully she didn't share her germs and got too many others from kids in there...

Interestingly, after 2 minutes during which she did't want to leave mom, curiosity took over, and she just went for it, and didn't look back... Also, she definitely showed no sign of intimidation from kids bigger than her...

She had a blast with the bubble installation designed to show that the speed of a bubble rising is determined by the liquid density... She surely did not get into the physics of it, but she sure got that when pressing the red button she could create a whole lot of bubbles at once, so much fun!!!!

A million things around...

This week, Amélie has started to point at everything, this little thing just wants to touch and explore all she can see... Poor thing is so frustrated as we cannot accommodate half of what she wants to get into, chew on or grab... We do our best to use the life saving strategy of distracting towards a suitable alternative... Sometimes with success, sometimes only driving her mad... Overall, fun to see her discover and want to explore though!

Whistle blower...
