Une conversation avec maman

Amélie is getting better and better with languages, mom must admit that the hardest part is to keep speaking French rather than to stick with English now that the little one only speaks English... Proof?

Amélie at the Zoo

Yesterday we went to the Zoo in Indy, we saw lots of animals, including lions, baboons, elephants and really big emus... The highlights? The fish section, we saw Nemo, we saw lots of seahorses, and dad even imitated the sealions!

But the most memorable part was how much fun Amélie had trying to catch a shark... She was so excited!

She tried:

And tried:

And finally, she did touch a shark:

Amélie was overjoyed, and told several times the story of how 'mimituckchshak' yesterday and today.

Great story, until we started thinking that if one day she tells us she is on her way to a trip to swim with great whites, we will only have ourselves to blame!

Bed time stories

Ce soir durant notre histoire, me voici à raconter notre histoire habituelle...

Language update...

Amélie is getting better and better with her ABC song and her counting...

For instance, she knows how to sing from A to about P quite well. After that it's pretty much random lyrics, which is totally cute and highly entertaining...

She showed her parents that she knew how to count a little bit... The other day, she showed us her counting skills: one, two, three, five... We are still working on four, for some reason she prefers "quatre" to "four", no idea where that comes from... Also, she shows all her fingers in weird positions for anything that's more than one, too funny to watch, we'll try to take a picture of that when we can...

Vignette from the last few days

Yesterday we went to Amélie's first Basketball game... At Indiana University (IU), Basketball is a religion, so the whole town was there. Let's just say that for Amélie 'basketball' is for now the stuff that happens while she has to wait for 'mo' muchik!' We came home singing the IU fight song, and today, one could sing the fight song and Amélie would finish it with the screaming "IU" ending!

Today, our little one was also full of surprises...

The day started with mom trying to dress her for daycare... She insisted that she wanted to listen to some music in the process, so mom obliged, and we were listening to music while I was trying to put her clothes on...

The sweater felt like a big victory, but at the time when the pants were next on the list, I encountered considerable resistance... Amélie looked at me and said 'NO'... No surprise there... But when I tried to convince her that the pants were calling for Amélie to put them on, she totally surprised me by grabbing the pants and starting to make them dance to the music. I of course started laughing, and it took us another 20 minutes for the pants to have had enough dancing and go on Amélie...

Tonight, we had a nice conversation over dinner. Dad was asking Amélie about her day... He was asking whether she played with some of her classmates, and after each name, Amélie was mumbling 'yeah' or 'mhmh'... Using this method, dad learned that today Amélie played with Diego, Ivan, Rena, Obama, Gandhi, and even Newton... We are very impressed by her circle of friends so far!
